How To Choose A Personal Injury Attorney

You were injured and it wasn’t your fault. Now the bills are piling up, you can’t return to work and you can’t get the medical care you need to get better. It’s time to consult with an attorney, but which one?

Here are some things to consider:

  1. Find an attorney who specializes in personal injury litigation.
  2. Find an attorney who is fully aware of the benefits that may be available to support you while the lawsuit is pending.
  3. If you were hurt on the job, you need to find an attorney who, in addition to having civil trial experience, also understands how to maximize Workers’ Compensation and Social Security benefits to provide you with the best cumulative award.
  4. Find an attorney with extensive trial experience, who has the respect of other trial attorneys, and who has an established reputation with the defendant’s insurance company.
  5. Find an attorney with a winning trial record who has a history of maximizing the potential value of cases.
  6. Find an attorney who cares, not just about money, but about you.

Your choice of an attorney to represent you in court is the difference between success and failure. It makes a huge difference in the ultimate award or settlement that you will receive.

All personal injury attorneys should advance costs and charge you nothing until the case is resolved in your favor. In a sense, you are in a partnership with your attorney. Before you sign anything you should meet with the prospective attorney and ask the following questions:

  1. Do you specialize exclusively in personal injury?
  2. How many years have you concentrated on personal injury?
  3. Please explain the benefits which may be available through Social Security, State Disability, Workers’ Compensation, and other state or federal benefit programs.
  4. Are you a member of any honorary or invitation-only trial organizations?
  5. Have you received any trial organization awards?
  6. When did you last try a case? When did you last lose a case? What is your win/loss record for your past 10 trials?
  7. In the last 10 cases that you have tried, how did the defendant’s last settlement offer compare to the jury verdict?
  8. Do you have any recommendations from past clients? May I call them?
  9. Do I like and trust this person who is to become an important part of my life?

Following these suggestions will lead you to the best possible result in your case.
